High boots, Scottish wind, leather jackets and a dark rock music soundtrack, doesn’t it sound like the perfect complement for a unique bridal look? trust me, it is.
This post -long awaited by many I hope, fills me with love and excitement. What was a dream trip just a few months ago, also became one of the most beautiful experiences in my career as a wedding photographer. A bridal fashion editorial photo shoot that could not have been done in any other city in the world because Edinburgh was predestined, with all its magic and mystery, its streets darkened by chimneys and stories of witches, ghosts, vampires. The Scottish capital -a World Heritage Site where so much history has happened and where so many other stories continue to inspire dreamers from all over the world.
This session, inspired by the dark, rebellious and unconventional romantic love, focuses on the eternal and its aesthetics, always beautiful and that comes back to us with an incomparable value. I share these photos with all my love looking to inspire all those future brides, because our wedding day is unique and no matter what kind of love celebration you do, we want to have that dress of our dreams, even for a brief moment. And this shoot inspires us to know that sometimes that dress belongs to another time and is waiting to be found again by someone else. A great love story of a vintage wedding dress!
I had the incredible fortune (or may I say it was written in the stars) to connect with Sarah, the very talented -very beautiful inside and out artist who was the model -bride for this shoot, who I came across one day on Instagram while I was planning my days in Scotland. After a nice conversation as if we had known each other forever, I couldn’t wait for the date to come when I would fly to the UK and finally be able to carry out this idea I had been dreaming about for so long. Later I met Claire, the owner of one of the most amazing vintage boutiques I have ever seen, who contributed with the clothes and styling, as well as accompanying us with her wonderful attitude and personality, and our Makeup Artist Karen, talented and funny, all of them with a beautiful, kind Scottish soul. Girls; it was so inspiring to work with a team of artists like you!
Finally the day arrived and after a few days in London Nahuel (my beloved husband for those who don’t know him) and I flew one morning to Edinburgh to start a dreamy Scottish adventure (which I will soon write about and share photos of).
In Stockbridge, one of the most beautiful and prestigious neighborhoods of the city, we reached the boutique where the girls were waiting for us to start the session. It was totally amazing to finally walk into this space and see Sarah, Claire and Karen who I had been talking to for months and see all these amazing vintage pieces and color in one place. The story of Those Were The Days Vintage began as an exclusive vintage boutique with a bridal collection that over the years has grown into a second brand Those Were The Days Bridal, helping brides from the UK and around the world find the dress of their dreams.
The boutique has a vast collection of carefully selected international dresses from super glamorous gowns to simpler designs, accessories, jewelry, capes, veils and everything you can imagine, for any silhouette. They are rare pieces that will definitely create a one-of-a-kind bridal look for any type of wedding, each one of these dresses have been iconic in every era to which they belonged. As a vintage lover, being able to see, touch and photograph part of this incredible selection was truly a dream come true, (thank you Dear Claire!).
For the shoot, we had two main looks, starting with a gorgeous 70’s silky dress with fine lace details and an 80’s leather jacket. Celebrating Punk rebelliousness and honoring this cultural and musical era in the UK, which was part of the inspiration behind this editorial shoot.
Karen did a beautiful job and Sarah was stunning with a grungy-rock look with smokey eyes and loose, uncontrolled hair.
The second look was a much more dramatic 60’s gown; all lace, long tail and ruffles, paired with a second black fringe leather jacket which gave us a very goth-rock and roll vibe and super romantic.
Scotland welcomed us with rain, cold and a strong wind that could blow us all away but it was great to be able to walk around Stockbridge and shoot Sarah outside. The photography was documented in a combination of digital and analog on 35MM black and white film. The Super 8 Film by Nahuel – which turned out like a punk music video from the 70’s was shot on both color and black and white film as well. Don’t forget to see the full film over here!
If you are traveling in Europe, the UK or just still looking around for a unique wedding gown, don’t hesitate to hop on a flight to Edinburgh and visit Claire at Those Were The Days Bridal to find that dress of your wildest dreams or just to take home some exceptional pieces from her neighboring sister Those Were The Days Vintage.
For all those Brides out there reading me right now, don’t be afraid to take a chance on your wedding day or elopement. Give your personality to your bridal look and choose to be inspired by what you are most passionate about.
From Edinburgh to the World, this editorial made with so much love.
