I met Sara and Ben the year before their wedding when they visited San Miguel de Allende for the first time, we took their engagement portraits and talked a lot about everything they were planning, but the most special thing of all besides meeting them, was when they told me that Sara had chosen to get married in Mexico, particularly in San Miguel after seeing my photos. Not only did that comment bring tears of joy to my eyes, but I really felt a special connection with her, as if we had been friends for years. That also made me a little nervous because I knew how much everyone expected from me and I wanted to exceed their hopes. It is so beautiful to see how my passion for what I do and my love for San Miguel transcends to people outside of Mexico and as in this case, it resulted in something very special beyond work.

The most beautiful thing about this wedding was to witness how Sara and Ben were so connected and enjoyed every moment. Sara, with her beautiful soul, smile and breathtaking Flora dress (if you’ve read me before, you know it’s my favorite bridal brand!) really looked like a princess from a fairy tale, I mean, these two were Cinderella and Prince Charming for real.

I really have to talk a bit more about this wedding dress, because not only was it really beautiful, but as a photographer it’s amazing to see when a bride soaks in her dress and has fun with it, something that can really be reflected in the photographs. Sara seemed to levitate with every step she took and that dress was truly meant for her. Her Makeup from Dani Pal’s team was excellent as usual, highlighting Sara’s tremendous beauty.

An intimate affair at Casa Adela, honoring Sara and Ben’s special day and those who love them the most. A garden ceremony celebrated by Ben’s brother, with the wildly beautiful floral creations by Valeria Tamayo of Maye Córdova. “Radio” by Lana del Rey is playing and they walk down the aisle, happy, cheering and kissing.

The Mariachi plays, the mojigangas and burrito arrive and the sunset cocktail party begins. The reception was like something out of a Jane Austen book, long tables with a Victorian vibe, endless details and textures; from vases, velvets, flowers of all kinds, colorful candles, fresh fruits, tablecloths to a beautiful tableware design, green everywhere and paper butterflies highlighting the name of each guest, all under a sky of golden stars, a dream indeed. Mentioning also, that Sara created all the stationery for her wedding; the table cards, napkins, invitations, signage, absolutely everything and in fact she enjoyed it so much that she created her own brand The Bee Paperie in which she now works full time.

One thing I really love about photographing outdoor weddings like this is taking advantage of the light and the colors. My favorite time to photograph is after sunset, when that super golden light is fading and everything starts to look like an old, animated Disney movie, evoking a sense of nostalgia with that slightly pinkish-blue sky. I think nothing photographs it better than a film camera and that’s what we did. We allowed most of the time for their photos during this hour and the results were simply magical. And so, we went back to the reception where Sara and Ben had their first dance followed by some happy tears when Sara surprised her dad with a vintage video of them dancing when she was a little girl. And the party started with DJ Esli making everyone dance and sing along to Fleetwood Mac and some good music.

I’ve waited a long time to finally share this beautiful story, but it was worth it. A perfect couple with a welcoming, lovely family. A wedding that was documented prioritizing little in-between moments, art and film formats, between 35MM, 120MM and what Sara most looked forward; Polaroid.
